Dear Families,
Thank you to those families who have already signed up to support the school fete this year. We know that this time of year can be busy, but even an hour of your time is helpful. It is also a great way to meet other families and to get to know people in the community. I am looking forward to being a part of this school event. It is exciting to hear about the various stalls and entertainment planned for this years fete. Raffle tickets were sent home yesterday, please check your child/rens school bags if you haven’t seen them yet. If you sell your booklet and would like some more, please touch base with Lee & Steph in the front office. It's not too late to get involved. Have a chat to our Fete Committee to see how you can contribute or come along to this week’s Fete Meeting on Thursday at 6:00pm in the library.
This afternoon and tomorrow we have our Goal Setting meetings between teachers and families. This is an opportunity for you and your child along with their teacher to set some goals for Semester 1. There will be an additional opportunity to review and set new goals in Semester 2.
With NAPLAN only just account the corner I wanted to emphasise the importance of reading at home, not only in preparation for such things as NAPLAN but as a continual growth for all children. Reading each night empowers children to expand their knowledge, vocabulary and imagination. I encourage families to make reading at home an essential part of every day.
Yesterday, we were lucky enough to have a visit from several players from Canberra Raiders. The team came to meet our students and to talk about how we can all do our best. They described to students what doing your best looks like and shared ideas about how we can be the best we can be. The team members also discussed ways we can look after ourselves, so we can always be ready to be a champion.
God bless

This year we will be completing the Chief Minister's Reading Challenge at school. Our aim is to record every book we read at school and we hope to be invited to the Chief Minister's Reading Challenge awards ceremony in late July.
STA Fete Book Stall
It's time to start sorting books for the STA Fete book stall. Please send in second hand books to the library for the school fete. Your support is very much appreciated!

Dear Kindergarten Families,
Please remember to drop in your completed Kindergarten Health Checks. All forms must be completed and returned by Wednesday, 28th February 2024.
Canberra Health Services will attend the school on the 26th & 27th August 2024 to complete the Health Checks. Further information will be provided closer to the date.
Students are introduced to new Ngunnawal vocabulary weekly. Special thanks to Miss Evans for continuing our learning of our Ngunnawal Country.
Years 3 & 5 - NAPLAN Information
NAPLAN testing will occur in our school between 13 and 25 March 2024 for students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9.
Online NAPLAN tests provide more precise results and are engaging for students. The tests are tailored (or adaptive), which means that each test presents questions that may be more or less difficult depending on a student’s responses. This helps students remain engaged with the assessment.
Tailored testing allows a wider range of student abilities to be assessed and measures student achievement more precisely. A student’s overall NAPLAN result is based on both the number and complexity of questions they answer correctly. Your child should not be concerned if they find questions challenging; they may be taking a more complex test pathway.
All Year 3 students will continue to complete the writing assessment on paper.
NAPLAN provides valuable information to schools and parents about literacy and numeracy achievement. It supports school improvement processes by enabling teachers to monitor student progress over time and to identify areas of strength and development.
Parents can choose to Withdraw their child from NAPLAN for a number of reasons. If this is something you would like to consider, please complete the below form and return to the school as soon as possible.
All eligible students are encouraged and supported to participate in NAPLAN testing. Visit www.nap.edu.au to see interactive versions of the test and for more information.
